The Greater Youth Collaborative Opus is a student-centered youth nonprofit in Georgia. Students rehearse, perform, teach, research, and organize their own community projects.
Greater Youth Collaborative Opus (GYCO) is a student-centered youth nonprofit founded in 2022 by two students and an educator, and officially registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in May 2023.
Built around the idea of "Learn well, Give well", GYCO helps students turn what they learn into meaningful service through music, education, research, storytelling, and student leadership.
What began primarily through music has grown into something broader. Students now create educational resources, conduct research inspired by their service experiences, document community stories, develop outreach projects, and bring those ideas back to their own schools and communities.
Students return to the same communities rather than visiting once. So far that has included:
Open a community for its story and photos.
Music was where GYCO began and remains one of the most direct ways we connect with others.
Students perform for patients and families, senior communities, individuals with disabilities, and community organizations, using music to create moments of encouragement and connection.
GYCO encourages students to share what they have learned with others.
Students create books, educational materials, teaching videos, digital resources, workshops, and activities that make their knowledge useful to the communities around them.
Service often creates questions.
GYCO helps students turn questions discovered through community experiences into research that can improve programs and inspire new ideas.
Every community has stories worth hearing.
Through GYCO Press, students use interviews, articles, photography, and video to document and connect the people, organizations, schools, and communities involved in our work.
GYCO Chapters are student-led groups based in schools and communities. Some are officially recognized school clubs, while others begin as student-led groups connected to GYCO.
Each Chapter can identify local needs, participate in GYCO projects, create its own projects, and remain connected with students across the larger GYCO network.

2022
GYCO began with a simple hope: to help young people not only learn well, but also share their talents and what they have learned with others.
2023 – Summer 2024
Through frequent performances and service, students connected with patients, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other communities. These experiences showed us that music could be more than a performance—it could create meaningful human connection.
2024–2025
After many visits, a new question emerged: “How can we stay connected even when we cannot be there in person?” Aaron and Kate began developing an idea that could extend that connection beyond each visit.
Late 2025
Aaron and Kate began meeting directly with organizations, sharing their ideas, listening to their needs, and building connections with community partners. The idea gradually moved from concept to real-world practice.
2026
Those experiences became WE ARE WITH YOU (WAWY), GYCO’s first student-led program—developed by Aaron and Kate and brought to life through continued collaboration with partner organizations. WAWY carries messages, music, and connection beyond distance and time.
A WE begins with two people.
